Measuring Rubber Tracks: A Comprehensive Guide
Keeping your machinery running smoothly often relies on having the proper fitting rubber tracks. This guide will walk you through the steps to measure your rubber tracks to ensure you get the correct replacements.
There are three key measurements to take:
Width: This is the simplest measurement, referring to the distance across the outside of the track, from one edge to the other.
Pitch: This is the distance between the centers of the drive lugs, the raised treads that grip the ground. To measure this, place your tape measure on the center of one lug and measure to the center of the next lug, along the inside of the track.
Links: Count the total number of drive lugs around the entire track. These are also sometimes called teeth.
Industry Standard Formula
Manufacturers use a standard formula to identify track size: Width x Pitch x Links. By obtaining these three measurements, you'll have all the information required to find compatible replacements.
Here are some additional tips for measuring your rubber tracks:
Use a tape measure with metric units (millimeters) for the most accurate results.
If you're having difficulty counting the drive lugs, mark one lug and rotate the track to count the complete loop.
If you have the original equipment manuals for your machine, they may also contain the track size information.
By following these steps, you can ensure you have the correct measurements to purchase replacement rubber tracks and keep your equipment operating at peak performance.
